Josh Hart and His Wife Have Built One Big Basketball Family
Josh Hart may be known around New York for diving after loose balls, battling for rebounds and playing every possession like someone owes him money. ๐๐
But when he gets home, the Knicks star has an entirely different challenge waiting for him โ keeping up with his wife, Shannon, and their twin boys.
And judging by everything the family has been through together, Josh Hart might actually have his toughest assignment away from the basketball court.
Josh and Shannon Hartโs story goes all the way back to high school. The couple met as teenagers at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., and eventually began dating in 2011. Shannon has previously described how far back their relationship goes, noting that they were only 15 when they met.
That means Shannon knew Josh long before he became an NBA player.
Before the Knicks.
Before the big contracts.
Before Madison Square Garden chants.
And definitely before Josh became the kind of player who seems willing to do absolutely anything for a rebound.
From High School Sweethearts to Husband and Wife
Their relationship grew alongside Joshโs basketball career.
Josh went on to play college basketball at Villanova, where he became a key part of a championship-winning program. Shannon also had an athletic background, playing soccer at Rutgers and later the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She eventually became a registered nurse.
So there was plenty of sport in this relationship from the beginning.
Josh was chasing basketball dreams while Shannon was pursuing her own career, and the two continued supporting each other through the different stages of their lives.
They eventually got engaged in 2020 before getting married on August 28, 2021, at 1 Hotel South Beach in Miami.
For a couple who had known each other since their teenage years, the wedding represented another major chapter in a relationship that had already survived college, Joshโs entry into the NBA and the challenges that came with his professional career.
But their biggest adventure was still coming.
Then Came the Twins
In May 2023, Josh and Shannon welcomed twin boys, Hendrix Aaron and Haze Dana.
And if there is one thing about having twins that probably requires more stamina than an NBA game, it is having twins.
Josh has joked about the chaos of fatherhood, but the family has clearly embraced it. Shannon has described the boys as active, happy and friendly, while the couple has emphasized the importance of staying grounded and prioritizing their family.
The twins also didn’t take long to become part of their father’s basketball world.
They attended their first Knicks game when they were only six months old, and they have since become familiar faces around the team.
And honestly, watching two little boys grow up around an NBA locker room might be the ultimate introduction to basketball.
Dad plays basketball.
Mom loves sports.
The boys have Knicks jerseys.
At this point, basketball might as well be another member of the family. ๐๐
One of the Most Emotional Moments Came During Their Birth
The twins’ arrival also produced an unforgettable moment in Joshโs NBA career.
Shannon went into labor while Josh was away with the Knicks during the 2023 playoffs. Because he couldn’t get to the hospital in time, Josh watched the birth of his sons through Zoom from the team hotel.
It was an unusual situation for an NBA player โ and certainly not the way anyone imagines welcoming their first children.
But Josh was able to see the birth remotely before rejoining his family.
The moment highlighted something that has become increasingly clear about Hart: for all the intensity he brings to basketball, family is enormously important to him.
The Boys Are Becoming Little Basketball Fans
Hendrix and Haze have already had plenty of opportunities to watch their father play.
They have appeared at Knicks games, worn team gear and even had some memorable moments around the team.
One of the twins went viral in 2025 after appearing with Josh on the sidelines, creating one of those funny family moments that fans couldn’t help but love.
The boys are also beginning to develop their own sports interests.
Josh recently revealed that one of his sons had become a fan of LeBron James, while another has shown interest in Knicks players. The family has even tried tennis camp to introduce the boys to something beyond basketball โ although Josh admitted that the experience was not exactly going according to plan.
Apparently, being born into an NBA family does not automatically make you interested in following instructions at tennis camp.
Kids will be kids. ๐
Shannon Remains Joshโs Biggest Supporter
Through all of it, Shannon has remained one of Joshโs strongest supporters.
She has attended his games, supported his career and helped create a family environment that Josh clearly values.
During the Knicks’ historic 2026 championship run, Shannon and the twins were there to celebrate with him after New York captured its first NBA title in 53 years. The family even gathered around the championship trophy.
That made the moment particularly special.
Josh had spent years working toward basketball success, but when the biggest prize finally arrived, he wasn’t celebrating alone.
His wife and two sons were right there.
A Basketball Family in Every Sense
Josh Hart’s family story is different from the usual NBA narrative.
It isn’t simply about a superstar and his glamorous life away from basketball.
It’s about a couple who met as teenagers, grew together, got married and became parents while Josh’s basketball career continued to evolve.
Now their twin boys are growing up watching their dad compete in the NBA.
And if the boys eventually decide they want to play basketball themselves, Josh will probably have plenty of advice.
Although knowing Josh Hart, he may also teach them how to box out, grab rebounds and dive onto the floor before they can even tie their shoes. ๐๐
For now, though, Josh seems perfectly happy being a husband and father first.
The Knicks star may spend his working days fighting for every possession on the basketball court, but his most important team is waiting for him at home.
And that team of four has already built quite a story together. โค๏ธ๐
